Trust & safety

Everything we ask you to trust us on, in one place.

brillaxl is an independent Ghanaian learning platform for students from preschool through SHS, plus common college-prep courses. This page is our single source of truth on money, data, how our learning help works, and how we keep children safe. If anything here is ever unclear, email brillaghxl@gmail.com.

1 · Money

Pricing, trials & referrals

Premium is stage-scoped: a plan unlocks the stage (or pathway) it names — never a vague “all grades.” You only pay for the stage your child is in. Payments are handled by Paystack (Mobile Money or card), billed in Ghana Cedi. We never see or store your card details.

FamilyEach child at their own stage’s rate — first child full price, every other child 30% off, up to 6 learners on one bill.

Each plan offers monthly / termly / annual billing (per month / per term / per year). Prices are the live prices our checkout charges.

What’s free

  • 5 practice questions a day, plus lesson previews — no card needed.
  • A free trial on sign-up: 3 days for a student, 7 days for a teacher.
  • Teacher accounts are free forever — a class management console (Class Quizzes, Level Check, class reports), not a free way to study.

Offline packs (premium)

Subscribers can download up to 6 topics to learn and practise with no internet. If a subscription ends, downloaded packs keep working for a 14-day grace window, then lock until renewal — but your learning history always syncs. We never hold a child’s progress hostage.

Grandfathering

If we change a price, existing subscribers keep their current plan and price until they renew. Legacy all-grades and family subscribers keep their access. One free scope switch is included per subscription when a child crosses a stage boundary (e.g. JHS → SHS), with time carried over.

Referrals — stated exactly

  • Students: share your invite link; when a friend signs up and does a quiz or mock, you earn +1 free mock that month (up to +4 a month).
  • Teachers: earn GH₵2 for each of a student’s first 6 subscribed months when they join with your class code. It is paid only from confirmed payments (never per signup or per free student), paid out monthly by Mobile Money after review; a refund claws back its reward.

2 · Privacy

What we collect, and who can see it

We collect only what the learning needs, use it only for that, and keep it no longer than useful — the data-protection principles Ghana’s Data Protection Act is built on, in plain language.

What we collect & why

  • Account: name, a phone number or email, grade and role — to run the account.
  • Learning: lessons opened, practice answers, scores, mastery and mock results — to teach adaptively and report to a parent or teacher.
  • Usage: a lightweight activity heartbeat (active time) — to see the product is working and plan improvements.
  • Billing: your subscription status and a payments record — handled by Paystack; we never store card details.

How long we keep it

  • Raw usage-heartbeat events are pruned after 3 days and kept only as anonymous daily totals.
  • Learning history is kept while the account is active, so progress and reports stay accurate.
  • You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data any time at brillaghxl@gmail.com.

Who can see a child’s data

  • The learner, and a parent linked to them.
  • A teacher sees only students who joined their class code, and only their learning data (progress, scores, activity) — never contact details, never payment or subscription information, never another class’s data.
  • A student or parent can leave a class at any time, which immediately removes the teacher’s access to that child’s data.
  • These boundaries are enforced in our database with row-level security, not just hidden in the interface.

3 · Honesty

How our learning help and estimates work

Guided hints, not answers

When a student is stuck, we show an authored, step-by-step hint ladder — a guiding question first, then a reminder of the method, then a simpler version — written by us for each skill. It guides thinking; it does not hand over the answer. Using hints marks the attempt as guided, so an unaided success always counts for more. There is no live AI answering questions today.

Mastery comes from evidence

Each skill shows one of five labels — Not Yet Introduced, Emerging, Developing, Secure, Mastered. Day-to-day practice can take a student up to Developing. Secure and Masteredare only awarded after a short “prove-it” recheck a couple of days later — so a label reflects durable learning, not a lucky session.

Scores are estimates

Every grade or score we show is a brillaxl estimate to guide study — never an official prediction. Real WAEC and BECE grades are decided by the national cohort; our SAT figure is an estimate on the 400–1600 scale; our Cambridge readiness is modelled on published band descriptions. We never claim a question “will come” on an exam.

If we ever add live AI

Any live-AI tutoring is feature-flagged off and must pass our evaluation rubric before it reaches a student. When it ships, its limits and the human oversight behind it will be documented here first.

4 · Safety

How we keep children safe

No open chat — ever

There is no student-to-student free-text chat anywhere on brillaxl. Group work is class-scoped and teacher-created: students only ever exchange structured things — answers, worked steps, and choices from fixed encouragement sets. Every group space is fully visible to the class teacher, and every piece of work has a report control routed to the teacher and to us.

The “this confused me” promise

Any student can flag a question that confused them with one tap. Every flag reaches the student’s teacher and our content-review queue — we read them all, and our target is to fix or explain a flagged question within 7 days. It is a promise to students, so we track how long it takes us to keep it.

Accounts & moderation

  • One teacher account per verified phone number; a teacher account carries no learning content of its own.
  • Interactions and language are written for the child’s age and stage.
  • To report a safety concern, email brillaghxl@gmail.com — we review safety reports promptly.

5 · Independence

Our independence from exam bodies

brillaxl is an independent study platform. We prepare students for these exams; we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the bodies that run them, and all of our content is our own original work.

WAEC (WASSCE & BECE)

brillaxl is not affiliated with or endorsed by the West African Examinations Council. Our questions are original practice aligned to the NaCCA curriculum and the exam formats; real past questions are transcribed from published papers and clearly labelled. Grade estimates guide study and are never official predictions.

Cambridge

BrillaXL is an independent Ghanaian study platform, not connected with Cambridge University Press & Assessment. Every lesson and question here is our own original work, built to prepare students for the Cambridge syllabuses.

College Board (SAT)

BrillaXL is not affiliated with or endorsed by the College Board. SAT is a trademark of the College Board. Every question is original BrillaXL content. Scores are a BrillaXL estimate — a study guide.
